FIFA 15 is official. We’ve played it and it’s yet another iteration on a winning formula. Here’s a quick look at some of the new features coming to this year’s entry on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

1. Ball physics
Deflections in FIFA have always been kind of weird and unrealistic. During a pre-demo presentation, the developers explained that until now, whenever the ball was touched by a player, the spin would be reset. The momentum now carries in FIFA 15, so you’ll see far more realistic deflections which could lead to some manic defending.

In my time with the game, I saw some deflected shots go straight into the top corner, scuffed clearances and short passes in little triangles to break down defences. You can also now pass back to throw-in takers more easily, as players can cushion the ball.

The new physics also help limit the over-powered heading from ’14, as glancing headers and miss-kicks are much more likely, especially in wet weather.

2. Pitch wear
Over the course of 90 minutes, the grass will cut up and wear away under the player’s feet. By the end of a game, you’ll see slide marks and footprints just like you would on TV. The effect is even more apparent on a rainy day, with players sliding further and also staining their shorts after making a tackle.

The problem was the pitch wore down rapidly, much more so than it does in an actual match. Pitches looked more like Sunday league grounds rather than the Theatre of Dreams, so hopefully EA scale the new mechanic back a bit when the game launches.

3. Agility
Players turned like carthorses in FIFA 14, making it nearly impossible to keep up with anyone pulling off intricate dribbles. In 15, players have a much smaller turning circle and can stay tighter to the dribbler.

4. Possession tackles
The ball would often come loose following a challenge in FIFA 14, especially if you opted for a slide, and the team with the ball often kept it no matter what you did. EA has rectified this by introducing possession challenges. In a standing tackle, a defender will step across the ball carrier to take it, and in a slide, hook their foot onto the ball and get up into a dribble without breaking stride, adding a much greater sense of control.

It’s a great addition that becomes really important in congested areas of the pitch. The slide tackles also mean sliding from behind dribblers is also handled with more finesse as players can come around a player rather than through them.

5. Off the ball movement
Don’t worry, this isn’t like the terrible FIFA 2004 mechanic. For set-pieces, you can flick the right stick to control an individual in the box, and push defenders to create space before calling for the pass. The set-piece tactics from EA’s 2014 FIFA World Cup game have also made there way across, adding much more depth to corners.

6.Half-time highlights
The half-time highlights are now much more cinematic, clearly inspired by the Sky Sports ‘coming up’ montages and ESPN reels which NBA 2K14 has adopted so well. The screen takes on a grey tint and is given a black border as the highlights play, which are given a soundtrack peppered with commentary during some of the more key moments. It’s cool, but these will inevitably be skipped by everyone after the first watch as we desperately try and get to the second half.

7. PC Parity
The PC version is finally on par with next-gen FIFA. Players with good enough rigs will be able to enjoy the full FIFA experience just like their PS4 and Xbox One brethren. The minimum and recommended requirements for FIFA 15 have not yet been released, but we’ll update you as soon as they are posted.

FIFA 15 will support 10-man celebrations for goals. We were shown clips of the entire Barcelona outfield celebrating a goal in the early moments of El Clasico, a classy bundle that really rubbed it into the face of Los Blancos. WildStar’s Dungeons and Adventures are Must See Content

If you like running 5-person dungeons, you are going to love WildStar’s dungeon content. I’ve PUG’d the first Exile dungeon, Stormtalon’s Lair, several times and run it with my guild, as well as the first adventure, Hycrest Insurrection. The length of time it takes to complete this instanced content is ideal for my schedule, easily run in under an hour barring a wipe fest. They are also PUG’able with patience and communication. Running with a guild obviously optimizes the potential for success, but I’ve had some good experiences in PUG’s (and bad) which confirms that the content is difficult but doable, and that’s the combination I’m looking for.

I appreciate that WildStar’s devs once again innovated on the MMO experience by adding 5-person Adventures into the game. This instanced content is different each run because the players quickly vote on several possible adventure paths, leading to different loot possibilities and experiences. Adventure runs contrast nicely from standard dungeons, adding spice and variety to WildStar’s instanced content experience.

UI Recommendations
The base UI is pretty dang good, and many of the addons created by the community are helpful. There are a few annoying little things I would like to see improved:

1. The Abilities icon in the bottom left of the base UI remains lit up for some reason after leveling up and spending new abilities and AMP points, causing the player to have to click it again to reopen the Abilities Screen and clear the icon’s light.
2. When selling items out of inventory bags, the UI confirms the sale but then creates a highlight above the bottom inventory item for a few seconds, blocking it from view.
3. To click Confirm when opening a Boombox or performing other action or entering a BG, the UI highlights the button when the cursor hovers over it, but then you have to wait for a bar to fill up before actually being able to click the button.
4. The quest list on the right side of the screen is difficult to use.

Thayd, Exiles Capital City

Let’s Talk about Thayd
I am not a fan of the Exile capital city. It is a sprawling city that does not feel like home and is inefficient to get around. I’ve made my peace with Thayd, however, because its layout and feel appropriately fits the Exiles theme of being the upstart faction just getting up and going, trying to make a home on Nexus. So while I don’t care for the city, I do think it fits within the lore of the Exiles faction, and perhaps in a future expansion it will blossom into a different place that is more efficient, better looking and more fun to spend time. For now, being in the city is a stark reminder that the Exiles have a long way to go, and I look forward to seeing what lies ahead for them.

It is reported that Auction Houses will be merge in Warlords Of Draenor-WoW

World of Warcraft’s auction houses will undergo a big chance in the expansion pack Warlords of Draenor. Blizzard said that they plan to merge the auction houses used by Horde and Alliance players.

“Yes, in 6.0 auction houses are unified between factions on a given server,” said designer Ion Hazzikostas on the official World of Warcraft forums.

Hazzikostas added that servers with unbalanced faction populations were a “major reason” for this change. In some cases, one faction outnumbers the other by a 100:1 ratio. Players in the minority faction have access to fewer items on their auction house and generally have to pay far higher prices.

WoW already has three “neutral” auction houses operated by goblins. However, they’re in far-flung locations like Gadgetzan and Winterspring. They’re harder to reach than the auction houses in capital cities so there’s typically a dearth of items on sale. Many players simply use them to transfer gold and supplies between their own Horde and Alliance characters.

Allowing Horde and Alliance players to buy and sell from auction houses in their respective capitals will make a big difference, though. The solution isn’t without its problems, though.

“I think this is quite a good change, especially because it counteracts one of the most negative effects about faction imbalance,” said community manager Taepsilum on the European WoW forum. Having said this, I do understand some of the concerns, especially lore and narrative wise, and will try to clarify that with the devs.”

I can see why players might have an issue with free trade between the Horde and Alliance. The war between those factions is at the core of World of Warcraft’s story. However, it shouldn’t be that hard to come up with an explanation that fits with the game’s lore. Blizzard could just say, “Oh hey, the goblin cartels took over!”

Merged auction houses won’t solve the economy problems for players on lower population servers, though. Blizzard is addressing that particular issue with Connected Realms, sets of two or more realms that can trade or run instances together. Linking the game’s servers began last year and is still an ongoing process.

“Connected Realms will contribute greatly to creating healthy realm populations everywhere. It won’t help as much with faction imbalance, but you’ll still end up with more players on both factions regardless, that means, more players to play with despite any imbalance that may still exist.”

These measures became a necessity due to the declining population of World of Warcraft. The game has been steadily losing subscribers over the past few years. The game’s population is now around 7.6 million, down from the peak population of 12 million back in 2010.

Blizzard’s hoping that the new expansion Warlords of Draenor will give the game a shot in the arm, though. The closed beta test began last week and the full version is expected to launch this fall.
